I read a passage from the Bible recently about how God assigned specific tasks for people to do. Aaron’s sons were given the responsibility to serve as priests. According to Numbers 3:2-3, “These are the names of the sons of Aaron; Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests” (New American Standard Bible). Levites were given the responsibility to help Aaron and his sons by serving at the tent of the meeting. According to Numbers 8:19, “And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons to Israel, to perform the service of the sons of Israel at the tent of the meeting and to make atonement on behalf of the sons of Israel, so that there will be no afflictions among the sons of Israel due to their approaching the sanctuary” (NASB).

These scriptures reminded me that we all are called for a purpose, and God has assigned specific tasks for each of us to do. Sometimes, that calling could be for us to be on stage and minister. Other times, it could be ministering to others behind the scenes by being a good sister, brother, husband, wife, or coworker. What that could look like is for us to help someone write a resume or find a job or to text and check in on a friend who is going through a life-threatening health condition, being fully present for our spouse, getting lunch with a coworker who is hurting, being available on the phone to just listen to a family member, bless someone by paying for their meals, etc.

It is easy for us to feel like we are not doing anything if we are not ministering or doing something big on the stage. I hope we don’t minimize all those little things God calls us to do. The little things that we do for others might be a huge blessing for them.

In the end, our goal is to do what God called us to do, however, and wherever He wants us to serve.
